What’s new in 2017

A good start to 2017 for the schools in Bournemouth taking part in the Schools Competition within Bournemouth in Bloom. More schools than last year are participating including some private schools.

The year started with the distribution of Daffodil and Tulip bulbs for the children to plant up and exhibit in the Spring Show at St Francis of Assissi church hall in Charminster Rd, on Tuesday April 11th. These were donated by Kings Park Nursery.

The entry forms for the summer competitions have been sent out to all the schools, and our Schools’ Co-ordinator is still waiting for all the forms to be returned. This year the classes are:

  • Vegetable garden
  • Flower  garden
  • Sensory garden
  • Wildlife garden, and
  • A Themed Garden in a Wicker Planter (this year the theme is “A Seaside Garden“)

The wicker Planters have been donated by Burgon & Ball, tool manufacturers, and the compost by Councillor Gina Mackin and her colleagues.

We aim to judge all the entries during late June/early July, with a special awards ceremony in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall on July 14, before the end of term. The prizes will be presented by the Bournemouth Mayor.

If any further information is required concerning the Schools competition, our Schools’ Co-ordinator Mrs Penny Slade BEM will be happy to speak to any interested parties. You can contact her via our contact form.
