Westbourne arcade will be looking even more splendid than usual after an afternoon spent creating floral hanging baskets with the guidance of expert David Bassil. Bournemouth In Bloom chairman Chris Colledge was joined by BIB members and Westbourne residents to fill ten large containers with trailing plants including Bidens Goldita, Lysimachia Aurea, Bacopa Baristo Giga White, Lobularia Lucia Purple and Surfinia Sky Blue and Pink Vein.
It was a lovely, sunny day and volunteers got stuck in with compost, plant food, water retaining gel and trays of plants. The resulting baskets will hang the length of the Henry Joy Arcade and will be watered via the integral irrigation system that was renovated a couple of years ago.
Everyone agreed that it was a really rewarding way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and Westbourne, its traders, visitors and shoppers will all be able to enjoy the results.
