We are a voluntary group who encourage the residents of Bournemouth to take care of and have pride in their community.

Our Vision

We are proud of Bournemouth and its horticultural heritage being a beautiful town in which to live and work. Bournemouth in Bloom, Bournemouth Horticultural Society has been running for many years and we have achieved great successes in local, regional, national and international competitions.

Many of us spend endless hours nurturing our gardens, tending our lawns, patios and hanging baskets. We do that both for our own pleasure as well as the joy and satisfaction to be gained from creating an environmentally sensitive habitat that encourages wild birds and animals into our gardens.

If you live in Bournemouth and love your garden, do register with us, become a member of our large family and join our community. Each year we hold three flower shows for anyone to enter at all levels.

We also invite you to enter our annual summer competition and you will receive recognition for your wonderful garden and spreading the joy!

    A welcome from our Chairman

I have always been passionate about horticulture and the value of bringing nature’s beauty into an urban context. Inspired by my regular visits to both Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows over many years, I’ve always tried to think of ideas we could implement locally. We are blessed to live in a town which has a significant amount of parkland and comprehensive arboriculture cover. The promotion of initiatives to enhance horticultural beauty, which is an integral part of our town and contributes enormously to its attraction both for residents and visitors, is one of my top-of-the-list priorities.

In the past Bournemouth has achieved Horticultural Excellence with its Gold winning record in South and South East in Bloom, Britain in Bloom and even Entente Florale in Europe. We also won Gold awards at the Chelsea, Hampton Court and Tatton Flower Shows, achieving the President’s Award at Chelsea in 2006.

I actively support BCP Council Parks Team, local communities, schools and young people who are the horticulturists of tomorrow. The launch of the new Bournemouth in Bloom Website is something which I am sure will assist in bringing communities together. Therefore if you have an interest in gardening or growing plants, I invite you to explore this website, take part in our competitions, become a member and ‘like’ and follow us on our Facebook page.

Thank you for your interest and together let’s make Bournemouth an even more beautiful area in which to live.

Best regards,

The Reverend Christopher Colledge MBE BCAc
